Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) is an independent product safety certification organisation that tests products for compliance to specific safety standards. UL certifications only apply to products going to North America.
In order to meet our customers' safety requirements, Hope Industrial Systems certifies all display products to meet one or more of the following categories.
Industrial Control Equipment (NRAQ)
Products Listed under this category include programmable industrial control systems utilising a programmable memory for internal storage of user-oriented instructions for specific functions, such as logic, sequencing, counting, and controlling various industrial equipment through digital or analogue inputs or outputs. Other products include power supplies, central processing units, input and output accessories, computer interfaces, and programming or program diagnostic units associated with programmable control systems.
The basic standard used to investigate this category is UL 508, Industrial Control Equipment.
All of Hope Industrial Systems' Panel Mount Monitors (HIS-ML12, HIS-ML15, HIS-ML17, HIS-ML19, HIS-ML19.5, HIS-ML20, HIS-ML21, HIS-ML22, HIS-ML23 and HIS-ML23.8) are covered under UL 508.
See below for UL 50E explanation.
Audio/Video, Information and Communication Technology Equipment (AZOT)
UL 62368-1 is the new hazard-based standard that will replace both UL 60065 (Safety of AV Equipment) and UL 60950 (Safety of Information & Communication Technology Equipment). The standard is expected to be advantageous to manufacturers designing modern electronic equipment and components due to its hazard-based principles, more performance-based requirements (vs. prescriptive) and its ability to better consider innovative designs and constructions.
This category covers equipment, appliances and systems rated 600 V or less normally found in offices and other business establishments, residences (homes), educational facilities, churches, institutions and other similar environments classified as unclassified locations.
The basic standard used to investigate this category is UL 62368-1, Audio/Video, Information and Communication Technology Equipment - Part 1: Safety Requirements.
All of Hope Industrial Systems' Panel Mount, Rack Mount and Rear Mount Monitors (HIS-ML12, HIS-ML/RL/RM15, HIS-ML/RL/RM17, HIS-ML/RL/RM19, HIS-ML/RL/RM19.5, HIS-ML20, HIS-ML22, HIS-ML/RM23 and HIS-ML23.8) are covered under UL 62368-1.
All of Hope Industrial Systems' Universal Mount Monitors (HIS-UM15, HIS-UM17, HIS-UM19, HIS-UM19.5, HIS-UM22, HIS-UM23 and HIS-UM23.8) and keyboards (KB-xx) are covered under UL 62368-1.
Information Technology Equipment (NWGQ)
This category covers equipment, appliances, and systems rated 600 V or less normally found in offices and other business establishments, residences (homes), educational facilities, and other similar environments classified as ordinary locations.
This equipment has been investigated for installation in information technology equipment (computer) rooms as defined in ANSI/NFPA 75, "Protection of Electronic Computer/Data Processing Equipment," and Article 645 of ANSI/NFPA 70, "National Electrical Code" (NEC), unless the equipment is otherwise identified by a marking or instruction.
Equipment may be electronic or electromechanical in design or a combination thereof. Various groupings of equipment are covered under this category, such as flat-panel displays, LCD displays, monitors, and plasma displays.
The basic standard used to investigate this category is UL 60950 3rd Edition, Information Technology Equipment.
All of Hope Industrial Systems' Panel Mount Monitors (HIS-ML12, HIS-ML15, HIS-ML17, HIS-ML19, HIS-ML19.5, HIS-ML20, HIS-ML21, HIS-ML22, HIS-ML23 and HIS-ML23.8) are covered under UL 60950 3rd Edition.
All of Hope Industrial Systems' Universal Mount Monitors (HIS-UM15, HIS-UM17, HIS-UM19, HIS-UM19.5, HIS-UM22, HIS-UM23 and HIS-UM23.8) are covered under UL 60950 3rd Edition.
Industrial Control Panels (NITW)
Products Listed under this category include industrial control panels, which are factory wired assemblies of industrial control equipment such as motor controllers, switches, relays and auxiliary devices. The panels may include disconnect means and motor branch circuit protective devices. This category also covers industrial panel enclosures that are intended to house open type industrial control panels or individual items of industrial control equipment as noted above.
The basic requirements used to investigate this category are contained in UL 508A, the Standard of Safety for Industrial Control Panels.
Hope Industrial Systems' Enclosures for PCs and Thin Clients are covered under UL 508A.
Hope Industrial Systems has further certified its products to UL 50E standards for Type 2, 12, 4, and 4X.
This standard applies to enclosures for electrical equipment intended to be installed and used in non-hazardous locations in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, CSA C22.1, the provisions of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70, and the provisions of Mexico's Electrical Installations, NOM-011-SEDE, as follows:
- Enclosures for indoor locations, Types 1, 2, 5, 12, 12K, and 13; and
- Enclosures for indoor or outdoor locations, Types 3, 3R, 3S, 4, 4X, 6, and 6P.
